The shape of a description that works

Most strong descriptions follow the same order: what it is, the detail that sets it apart, then what the reader can do or expect. That order also means that if Google cuts the snippet, the part that goes missing is the least important.

Check the length of your own in the meta description length checker, or let the generator draft three options from your facts.

Questions

What makes a good meta description example?

It summarises what the page offers in one or two plain sentences, includes specific details (what, where, how long, for whom), uses the searcher’s words once, and fits in about two desktop lines.

Should I include a call to action?

A short one can help when the page has a clear action (book, compare, download), but a concrete detail usually persuades more than “Click here”. Never promise something the page doesn’t deliver.

Can I reuse one description for similar pages?

Google’s snippet documentation recommends unique descriptions for each page. For large sites, generate them from page data (for example product attributes) rather than repeating one sentence.

What about numbers and prices?

Specific numbers are useful when they are accurate and stable. If prices change often, describe the range or the offer type instead so the snippet doesn’t go stale.
