Patterns that keep showing up in good titles

  • Query words first. The start of the title is the part that survives truncation and the part people read.
  • One qualifier. A size, place, year, audience or time turns a generic label into a reason to click.
  • A short brand suffix. Google already shows the site name above the title, so the suffix can be short or dropped on long titles.
  • No lists of keywords. Repeated words and pipe-separated keyword lists are exactly what Google’s title link documentation calls out.

Questions

What is a good title tag example?

One that names the page’s main topic in the words people search, adds a qualifier that helps them choose (a size, place, time or audience), and fits the desktop line. “Walnut End-Grain Cutting Board – 3 Sizes | Harbour Woodworks” is a typical product example.

Should every title follow the same pattern?

Use a consistent pattern per page type, but make each title unique. Google’s guidance warns against boilerplate titles that are identical or near-identical across many pages.

Where do I put the brand?

Usually at the end after a separator, except on the home page, where the brand is what people search for and belongs first.

Are these real websites?

No. The businesses are fictional so the examples can show clean patterns without endorsing anyone. The measurements are real: each title is measured live in your browser.
